Srilankan Airlines Sustained All Challenges It Had To Face From Environmental Events

SriLankan Airlines is the flag carrier of Sri Lanka, which was formed in 1979 as Air Lanka after Air Ceylon closed its operations in 1978, originally fully state owned later partly privatized with the participation of Emirates Group when Sri Lankan Government signed an agreement with the former for a ten year strategic partnership, which ended in 2008 and not renewed in, thereafter Sri Lankan Airways independently looks after its management.

Sri Lankan Airlines operates its 22 regular flights from its basic hub at Colombo's Bandaranaike International Airport, touching 61 destinations in 35 countries and it maintains its status as the largest foreign carrier operating in Maldives with minimum of 32 flights every week from Male to Colombo.

Sri Lankan airlines operates also six subsidiaries, namely

€SriLankan Catering
€SriLankan Engineering
€SriLankan Ground handling
€SriLankan Holidays
€SriLankan IT systems

and it has code share agreements with nine international airline companies.

SriLankan Airlines had to face challenges thrown by environmental mishaps and also acts of terrorism more than once, which include SARS outbreak, the 2004 Indian Ocean Earthquake, the Sri Lankan Civil War and also a terrorist attack on Bandaranaike International airport which wiped of nearly 50% of its fleet, by destroying completely four aircrafts and damaging another two.

Delta Airlines is an airline company based at Atlanta, Georgia and it is a large network of domestic and international operations serving almost all the continents of the earth, employing 80000 people, operating 4000 or so flights every day, claiming to be the sixth old operating airline since it commenced its operations, being the oldest airline in the United States still operating proficiently.

Delta Airlines is one of the founders of SkyTeam alliance and it operates the Frequent Flyer program SkyMiles, having code share agreements with eleven international airline companies.

Delta Airlines operates a fleet size of 710 aircrafts, serving 247 destinations throughout the world and it also subcontracts most of its daily departures to seven different airlines which are together referred as Delta Connection.

Delta Airlines inflight comfort is organized with five distinct cabin classes, namely
€Business Elite
€Domestic First Class
€Economy Comfort Class
€International Economy Class
€Domestic Economy Class

and each of the above classes having distinct inflight features right from seat adjustments, privacy, inflight entertainment and inflight catering.

Delta Airlines in its business expansion efforts, acquired another big aircraft company Northwest Airlines to become the world's largest airline in terms of passengers travelling, however it could get only the second place as the largest airline in passenger traffic although it stands first as the world's largest airline in terms of fleet size.
