How to Make a Roman Stripe Quilt
- 1). Cut the light, medium and dark colored fabrics into long 2 1/2-inch wide strips, using the rotary cutter and the self-healing cutting mat.
- 2). Sew the strips together along the long edges, right sides of the fabric facing each other, with a 1/4-inch seam allowance. Press seams to one side with the iron.
- 3). Place the sewn strips on the cutting mat. Use the triangle ruler as a guide to cut the strips into 16 triangles. Cut the white fabric into 16 triangles using the transparent ruler.
- 4). Connect the white triangles to the striped triangles with a 1/4-inch seam allowance, using the sewing machine, to make squares.
- 5). Sew the squares together to make the quilt top. Cut the batting and muslin to the same size as the quilt top. Layer the muslin, batting and quilt top on a flat surface and insert a safety pin in the center of each square.
- 6). Hand sew through the patchwork seam lines to connect the quilt top, batting and muslin backing. Cut a long 2-inch wide strip of muslin and sew it to the edge of the quilt top for an edging.
- 7). Fold the edging over 1/2-inch twice and hand sew it to the back of the completed Roman stripe quilt.
