July 2013 Calendar of Events
The 4th of July fireworks and festivals start the month of July off with a bang and the fun continues from there. This month's highlights include and of course, one of the largest events in the entire year - Indiana Black Expo Summer Celebration. This month's top picks include everything from dinner theatre to great live music and even a few hobby shows. Mark your calendar!
If you enjoy the thrill of "things that go bump in the night," this three-day horror festival is for you! The event features horror film stars such as Linda Blair from The Exorcist, Tony Todd from Candyman, Danny Trejo from From Dusk to Dawn and many more names you'll recognize. Events include a Monster's Ball, film festival, tattoo contest, panels with film stars and creators and many more. Day passes are $25, weekend passes are $55. Children 10 and under and military are free.

Bluegrass gospel has never been so funny! The Great Depression is ending and the Sanders Family is back on the road, picking', grinnin' & singin'. Of course the bus broke down, the twins are fighting, Uncle Stanley's fresh out of prison & sister June can't really sing - still Pastor Oglethorpe expects this to be the best revival Mount Pleasant Baptist Church has ever seen. Tickets are $37.50 to $62.50. Price includes both the entertainment and dinner.

Indiana Black Expo's Summer Celebration is one of the largest events in Indianapolis all year. The organization uses its largest event as an opportunity to an effective voice and vehicle for the social and economic advancement of African-Americans. The expo will feature educational conferences, family events, many concerts and much more.

Visitors to the Indianapolis Zoo get a special treat during summer Thursday evenings during the "Animals and All That Jazz" series. Enjoy jazz music while taking in the sights and sounds of the animals. Sit down at the open tent at the Party Pavilion or get up on the dance floor and dance the night away. The rides will also stay open until 7pm with Zoo members able enjoy free rides on a featured attraction from 5 - 7 p.m. by showing the Zoo membership card. Each concert features specialty food options in addition to regular Zoo fare and drinks specials.
"Animals and All That Jazz" is free for Zoo members and included with regular Zoo admission. Guests can also save $2 on a full-day admission by bringing a Dean's milk carton to be recycled on the day of the concert or stopping at any American Senior Communities location to pick up a coupon!

The Jonas Brothers are back on stage, after taking a three-year hiatus. The trio has played to sold out tour dates and have sold over 20 million albums. Their newest single, "Pom-Poms" was released in April 2013. The band will take the stage at Klipsch Music Center this month and is sure to draw in a large crowd of screaming women!

Enjoy a little French culture and history right here in Indiana! This Bastille Day celebration features plenty of French food, music, entertainment. The event caters to families, offering fun things like face painting, a bounce house and even a French-themed puppet show. At dusk, enjoy a beautiful candle-light lantern procession for the children - a French tradition for Bastille Day. The event ends with a special laser light show across a large screen. This event is free and open to everyone!

For decades, Harry Connick, Jr. has entranced audiences with his smooth voice and hit music and he returns to the Old National Centre with an exciting show. In 2013, Harry returned his focus to original music with two albums of complementary material. Smokey Mary, a limited release celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Krewe of Orpheus that Harry co-founded, captures the Mardi Gras spirit of New Orleans and all of its citizens and contains nine new Connick songs, while eleven more are included on Every Man Should Know, a collection that touches on some of Harry’s deepest feelings about life and love. Tickets range in price from $39.50 to $99.50.

In the past 10 years, knitting and crocheting have become popular hobbies. Pinterest is filled with fun projects and women of all ages are starting to pick it up. The 2013 Knit & Crochet Show gives visitors the opportunity to take classes from world-class instructors, shop the exquisite show floor and meet knit and crochet enthusiasts from around the world.General Admission is $5. Class fees are $75 for The Knitting Guild Association (TKGA) or Crochet Guild of America (CGOA) members and $95 for non-members for each three hours of classes selected up to twelve hours; after twelve hours, the fees are on a discounted sliding scale for members only.
