What is Facial Toning?
The results are an increased facial volume and reduced wrinkles, expression marks and sagging in the face.
There are two ways in which facial toning can be achieved, either through active exercise or passive exercise.
Active exercising consists of a person performing repetitious, voluntary contractions of specific muscle groups in the face.
With the use of a mirror a person is able to look at their face and target certain muscles to exercise.
These exercises can involve the use of muscles in the neck, throat, lips, cheeks, eyes and forehead.
By doing these exercises every day for at least a month, a person may start to notice the facial muscles toning, which will cause the skin to tighten and look more youthful.
Once the muscles have started to reform, a person can lesson the frequency of the exercises to every other day.
This will allow for the muscles to stay in use and prevent the skin from sagging.
Passive exercising consists of using electro-stimulation to the skeletal muscles in the face.
By using metal electrodes covered in conductive gel, the electrodes are placed on the specific muscle groups in the face.
When the small waves of electricity are sent into the muscle groups it causes stimulation and contractions of the muscles.
After so many contractions have occurred, the facial muscles start to form and tighten the skin.
The results are similar to those of the active exercises except the muscles are not voluntarily contracted.
Some people feel that these exercises work wonders and they can see a noticeable difference after just a few days of exercising, while others say they could not tell a marked difference in their appearance at all.
There are also arguments about whether or not active facial exercising causes fine lines in the face due to repetitive motions of the skin.
However, it is said by experts in facial toning, that if exercises are performed correctly this should not be a result.
Although there are tons of lotions, creams, gels and oils on the market that say they will help fade wrinkles and will tighten the skin on the face, they can only do so much.
Since the reason our skin starts to sag is from lack of muscle tone in the face, these creams can not truly do the job they claim to do.
They may be able to add moisture and vitamins to the skin but they can not actually create new muscles under the skin.
The reason facial toning can help is because the more muscle you have in the face the more firm the skin will become.
The skin is pulled tighter over the muscles causing a more youthful, fresher look.
If you are looking to tighten your facial muscles then exercising with either active or passive exercise may do the trick.
This could be the way to achieve results without having invasive cosmetic surgery.
