Can the Caribbean Climate Grow Olive Trees?

104 31

    Geography

    • Olives are originally from the Mediterranean region and need a dry, warm climate to grow properly. The weather in the Caribbean, albeit warm, is very humid. Olives also need the cool night temperatures to properly produce buds.

    Identification

    • The black olive tree (Bucida sp.) can grow well in the warm climes of the Caribbean. However, these evergreen trees do not produce edible olives. Instead, they produce tiny, black seed capsules.

    Function

    • The black olive tree, unlike other olive trees, should not be exposed to temperatures of less than 40 degrees Fahrenheit, according to Bonsai Clubs International. It is a popular species of tree that is used for bonsai trees.
