A Review of the Ramada Tropics Hotel and Waterpark
We recently went on vacation and drove to Chicago.
On the way there we stopped in Des Moines, Iowa at the Ramada Tropics Hotel and Waterpark.
I had a read a few reviews online and based on the price and a need to find water activities for our young children, we took a chance and booked the hotel.
Upon arrival at the 4pm check-in I stood in line for 15 minutes as there were a lot of people checking in at the same time.
It's a rather busy place.
The clerk was nice and everything was in order.
Our room was supposed to be in a quiet location, but right next to the stairs does not qualify.
At 5 am some woman with a large suitcase was bouncing down the stairs and slamming doors.
Not great, but the rest of the hotel definitely had quieter spots, just don't have a room overlooking the waterpark.
The waterpark itself is pretty awesome.
There are 4 or 5 separate pools, two waterslides, a pirate ship with little waterslides and lots of places for young and old to enjoy themselves.
Lots of pool towels, tables and chairs to park your stuff and helpful staff in case someone has a problem.
There's even a bathroom in the middle so you don't have to run back to your room.
Speaking of your room, it's very nice.
Either recently updated or newly built, not sure.
Modern bathroom with shower stall, no tub, and it includes a safe, microwave and fridge.
Overall I would definitely stay here again, giving it 4 1/2 stars.
The price was right, about $90 a night plus taxes.
Considering all you get for the cost this is a definitely winner!
