How to Clean Grout With Muriatic Acid
- 1). Dilute muriatic acid in water in a ratio of one part acid to five parts water. Fill an acid-safe plastic bowl with the water and add the acid.
- 2). Remove any fixtures from the grouted area to be cleaned because the acid will eat away the metal.
- 3). Cover wood, metal and porcelain surfaces with masking tape where they meet the grout. The materials can be damaged by the acid.
- 4). Scrub the acid onto the grout lines with a cleaning brush. Apply more acid until the grout is clean.
- 5). Clean the acid away with a shop vacuum. Clear away all of the acid before removing your protective wear.
