Have You Tried a Natural Remedy for Acid Reflux?

One of the most common ailments we face is heartburn. Heartburn is a symptom of acid reflux. Many members of my own family also suffer from varying degrees of this condition. Some of us have decided to try a natural remedy for acid reflux.

Many people I know will try various medications to relieve them of their symptoms. Even an antacid tablet would be considered a type of medication for heartburn. In fact, I would imagine that just about everyone who has had a bout of acid reflux has probably tried an antacid tablet.

The reason that we keep using these antacids is that they work. However, they are not meant to be taken all the time. If you continually need them then maybe it's time to have a doctor take a look at your problem or maybe you should make some changes to your eating habits.

I have done quite a lot of research on this subject because of occasionally having to deal with the symptoms of heartburn plus knowing that my father had severe acid reflux as well.

So, one thing you can do is have a doctor prescribe a medication for you, which is probably what you should do if the symptoms become severe. But, if you treat it with natural remedies for acid reflux then you may be able to prevent the condition from becoming severe.

Some the most common natural treatments simply involve making some changes to your lifestyle. It sounds weird but raising the head of your bed a few inches is meant to help prevent the occurrence of nighttime symptoms. The reason this helps is that it keeps your upper body at such an angle to prevent the acid from the stomach from seeping into the esophagus. It is not something I have tried but according to my research, it seems to help.

Another natural remedy that was suggested to me by a friend is to drink a glass of milk to relieve the symptoms. I also heard that it may not be a good idea because the fat in the milk may help to stimulate more acid production in the stomach. It may work if you drink a fat free milk but again this is something I haven't tried yet.

What I learned was to keep a record of what you eat and then you will have a better idea of what causes the symptoms. If you can then eliminate the foods that cause the acid reflux then you are essentially using a natural remedy for acid reflux because you are curing the condition without using medication.
