Did Lance Stephenson Enter the NBA Draft Too Early?
Once touted as one of the best ball players and most sought over prospects in the country, Lance Stephenson watched as his stock slipped and he was drafted 10th in the 2nd round by Indiana Pacers making him the 40th overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft.
As being arguably one of the greatest basketball players to ever come out of New York City, many suspected that the Brooklyn native would be drafted by his hometown team, the New York Knicks who passed by him with both their second round picks after having him work out with the team earlier in the week.
The Knicks instead opted to pick Andy Rautins and Landry Fields with the 38th an 39th picks of the draft.
The once dominate player has struggled to make an impression since leaving high school.
Although he won the Big East rookie of the year award his performance in college while playing for Cincinnati he had not been nearly as dominate as when he attended Lincoln High and set an all time New York City career scoring record.
While his talent is undeniable Lance is often criticized for being a selfish player and having poor shot selection.
His off court baggage which includes a sexual assault charge from his senior year in high school also brings unwanted attention.
Having put up rather unimpressive numbers during his run with the Cincinnati Bearcats could Lance have benefited from a few more years of university ball or did make the right decision with the early jump to the NBA?
