Early Morning Home Security Dangers in the Bathroom

103 18
Not many people would roll out of bed in the morning and head straight to one of the most dangerous zones of the house to get to work, that would be downright dangerous! Not many people out there head to the garage to do some work on the car with their eyes half closed, or go straight down to the basement on slippery dark stairs, mainly because before a person is fully alert and awake for the day, these things are dangerous! The problem, however, is that nearly everyone heads straight to one of the less obviously dangerous rooms of the house without thinking twice, the bathroom.
There are dangers at every turn when trying to navigate the bathroom in the morning.
The best way to stay safe is to know what dangers to look out for.
Slips and Trips.
When there are many people in and out of the bathroom in the morning, there are lots of opportunities for water to be spilled, for soap to be spilled, for various items like clothes, slippers and shampoo bottles to be left scattered about, and various other dangers that can provoke sleepy bathers to slip or trip.
The dangers here to your home security are apparent, in that the hard ceramic surfaces of the bathroom are not often forgiving.
Make sure to add safety features like a nonslip surface on the bottom of the tub or shower, safety railings and handles, and nonslip bathmats.
Less obvious safety features may include a clothes hamper for laundry, a shower caddy to get soap and shampoo bottles up and off the floor, and even a towel rack hung close to the shower to keep slippery water from being dripped all over the floor.
Poisonings.
Today with the number of medications, tonics, prescription drugs and other boxes and bottles kept around the bathroom, toddlers aren't the only ones who need to be safeguarded against poisonings.
In fact, it has been shown that an increased number of teenagers and adults are falling victim to poisoning at home by taking the wrong quantities of the wrong drugs, whether recreationally or by accident.
This can lead to severe injury or even death, and obviously compromise your home's home security.
Always keep strong prescription medications, and any medications which might be deemed dangerous locked away out of the reach of other family members.
Consider even moving them from the bathroom to the bedroom for added security.
In a home with toddlers or young children, put cleaning products or other poisons in a place where either the children cannot reach, or store them away from the bathroom in a locked cabinet to discourage contact.
Water Dangers.
There can be home security dangers lurking in the water for family members of all ages, including scalds and even drowning.
It only takes a little bit of water for someone to drown, a situation that can transpire when one suffers a slip, trip or fall that renders them incapable of rising.
Additionally, adults are more likely to suffer the risks of electronics around water causing electric shock and even death.
Always play it safe and move slowly when maneuvering around standing water in the morning.
