How to Decorate Your Porch With Lantern Lighting
- 1). Set candle lanterns around your porch for a natural glow as you enjoy the evening. Both tea light and votive candle lanterns are available and work well set in a line along the railing or on top of the railing. You can also opt to put one on either side of the entrance. Try wrought iron or Casablanca style lanterns for a classic, durable look.
- 2). String a row or two of decorative electrical lanterns above the porch railing. These lanterns move slightly in the wind and come in many styles, including paper, globes or stars. You can easily take them down if you want to change the look. Attach the string with strong hooks into the beam above the railing and let them drape slightly between hooks. Choose LED bulbs for energy savings and less fire hazard.
- 3). Install permanent porch lanterns that replicate original lanterns, complete with candle-like lights instead. These lanterns work as part of your regular decor. You can use either two, one on either side of the door, or use several across the porch. Some styles are installed right against the door, but others hang down the middle of the porch, giving more light. Install more lanterns if you plan on using your porch to socialize.
