    • 1). Measure from the top of the shoulder to the top of the foot of the person for whom the cloak is intended. Double that number. Cut the black fabric to this measurement to create the main cloak piece.

    • 2). Fold the cloak piece in half across the width. Measure the circumference of wearer's collarbone. Cut a hole in the exact center of the fold at least 1 inch larger than the collarbone's measurement.

    • 3). Slip the cloak piece over the wearer's head. Mark with the point where the cloak hits the middle of the breast bone. Also measure from the point on the arms where the edge of the cloak falls to the center of the back of the hand.

    • 4). Take the cloak off the model and cut a slit down the front's center from the edge of the neck hole.

    • 5). Measure around the top of the arm. Triple this number for the sleeve width measurement. Cut two rectangles of fabric that measure the length of the arm measurement and the width of the measurement around the top of the arm.

    • 6). Pin the sleeves to the cloak, right sides together, matching the center of one short edge of the sleeve rectangle piece to the center of the shoulder point on the cloak. Machine stitch each sleeve to the cloak's body.

    • 7). With right sides facing, stitch the sides of the cloak and the long edges of the sleeves.

    • 8). Cut one 4-inch-wide rectangle as long as the slit in the front plus 4 inches. Cut a slit down the middle of this rectangle from one short edge to the same length of the slit. This is the facing for the neck opening or slit.

    • 9). Place the neck opening facing over the slit in the front of the cloak, right sides together, and pin in place. Be sure to match the short edges of the neck facing with the edge of the neck hole. Machine stitch.

Turn the neck opening facing so that wrong sides are together and press. Top stitch close to the edge.

To create the hood, measure from the top of the head, over the side, to the center of the shoulder. Add 1 inch. Double this number. Cut two rectangles as long as the head measurement, remember to double it, and as wide as half the neck hole measurement plus 1½ inches. Stitch the two rectangles together along the long edges, right sides together. Turn the hood right sides out and press the seams. Fold the hood in half across the width and stitch one side.

Measure around the edge of the neck hole. Cut a rectangle on the bias of the fabric that is 4 inches wide and as long as this measurement plus 1 inch. This is the neck facing.

    • 13

Place the raw edge of the hood over the neck hole. Place the neck facing around the neck hole and over the hood. Pin all three pieces in place. Make sure the long edge of the neck facing matches up with the edge of the neck hole and the hood. There should be ½ inch of the neck facing at each end that is longer than the hood and neck hole. Machine stitch. Tuck under the remaining ½ inch of the neck facing and hand-stitch in place.

    • 14

Turn under the neck facing to the inside and press. Top-stitch around the neck hole under the hood.

    • 15

Hem the bottom of the cloak and the edges of the sleeves.

    • 16

Draw cloud shapes on the red felt and cut them out. Place the cloud shapes randomly on the cloak and pin in place. Machine stitch.

    • 17

Outline the cloud shapes with the white fabric pen or marker.

    • 18

      Trim all loose threads.
