How to Install a Sony Car CD Player
- 1). Open the vehicle's hood to gain access to the battery. Disconnect the grounding cable from your vehicle's negative battery terminal to prevent shorting out the electrical system during installation. Use an adjustable wrench or pliers to loosen the grounding cable's clamp.
- 2). Remove the factory stereo from your vehicle's dashboard stereo dock. See your vehicle's repair manual for the exact procedures for extracting the unit.
- 3). Unplug the stereo wiring from the back panel outlets on your vehicle's stock radio. Some wiring connectors require that you engage a release mechanism before pulling the cables from the stereo. Be careful not to damage the plastic connectors by yanking them from the outlets. Unplug the black antenna cable from the rear antenna outlet on the radio.
- 4). Slide the Sony CD player's installation sleeve into the vacant stereo mounting dock. Bend the metal tabs near the front of the sleeve with a screwdriver or other rigid tool to secure the sleeve in the dock.
- 5). Pull the stereo wiring and antenna cable from the back of the vehicle's stereo dock.
- 6). Plug the stereo wiring connectors into the wiring harness adapter leads. The adapter will have markings to show where the proper connections must be made.
- 7). Insert the wiring harness adapter lead connectors into the outlets on the left side of the Sony CD player's rear panel. The outlets are stacked near the corner of this panel.
- 8). Plug the antenna cable into the FM antenna outlet on the right side of the Sony CD player's rear panel. For GM vehicles, plug the antenna cable into the GM antenna adapter then plug the adapter into the antenna outlet on the back of the player.
- 9). Feed the stereo wiring and antenna cable into the back of the stereo mounting dock while sliding the Sony CD player into the dashboard dock. Push the player into the opening until it snaps into place.
