Buying a website is an investment in the future. If you make the right choices early on, the website you purchase can provide passive revenue to you for years to come. The trouble is, when you shop around on different online website business marketplaces, many similar websites can look almost identical.

If you know what to look for, buying a fantastic and profitable website can be a breeze. The first thing to check, when you're scouring the website marketplace, is whether or not the website you're contemplating purchasing already has recurring traffic. Traffic is by far the most important thing that determines a website's success. Are people interested in the site and if so where is the traffic coming from?  The reason you should ask these questions, before you buy a website, is because if all of the traffic is purchased i.e. acquired through pay per click campaigns, then receiving your seller's keyword list is just as important as receiving the domain. You don't want to purchase a website only to discover that the traffic was totally dependent upon something outside of your influence.

The next question to ask is how professional is the website design. A poorly designed website can cost you more long-term than your initial purchasing price. It is so important that you check the flow and relationships of the pages. When you buy a website, it's like buying a house. Would you purchase a house with rooms that were layout in a haphazard fashion? Why would you buy a website that had pages laid out in a sloppy manner? Next on our list is verifying whether or not the marketplace you're using has a good reputation. This is a common mistake with first time buyers. Just because a website claims to be good, doesn't mean that it actually is. It's your job as a professional to be aware of the quality of the marketplace you're using. If you are the victim of a scam, it is the job of the website buying marketplace to handle the situation. Only reputable marketplaces have the tools and experience necessary to handle such a claim.

Finally, if you are going to get a complete perspective on your new website, it's important that you open a dialogue between yourself and the seller. There are various little nuances that every website has. It's your job, as a potential website buyer, to ask important questions.  "Why are you selling your site?" or "Do you have any other websites up for sale?" are great introductory questions.  These questions will give you an idea of what kind of seller you're dealing with. Is the website you were potentially going to purchase losing money? Is it simply an issue of too many websites for the seller to handle? Compile all of the received answers into a document and refer back to this often during the purchasing process.

A good seller is just as important as a good website. With all of this information, your website purchasing experience is bound to be successful.
