If you have ever experienced having a yeast infection, then you know that it is something you would not like to have again.
According to statistics almost 70 percent of women will encounter a yeast infection at least once in their lifetime.
And the men are also not safe from it either.
Which brings us back to the original question, what actually causes a yeast infection? Well, the main cause of the infection is the overgrowth of the bacteria called Candida Albicans.
This type of bacteria is already present in our bodies and it is usually harmless.
However, if there is a major imbalance in our body's metabolism, it will trigger the growth of the bacteria resulting to an infection.
The major symptoms of the infection are swelling, itching, and a burning sensation.
For women who have it in their genital area, it may also cause unpleasant vaginal odor.
Now that we know what causes the infection, let's talk about the next question, and that's how to prevent it.
Like the old saying goes, an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure, which is very true with treating the infection.
Let us discuss some of the different ways we can prevent getting the infection.
Proper Hygiene - now this is the most basic thing we can do to prevent getting the infection.
But this is also most neglected step.
Try to take a bath at least once a day if possible and if you already have the infection try to keep it clean and dry.
Eat Yoghurt - eating yoghurt and other foods high in anti bacterial properties will return your body's natural metabolism and prevent the Candida Albican bacteria from growing and turning into an infection.
