High Endurance Scooter Events In 2012
Having participated in the typical Scooter Run that covers a distance of 500 miles or so, I wanted to step it up and join an event with more commitment to the Scooterist life style. I found a couple scootering event in 2012 that show real promise with respect to offering an intense "once in a lifetime experience" In fact, one of the events actually has "Once In A Lifetime" in the title of the scooter event. What is nice for anyone who reads this, There are sources available to get more information about the events and Forums as well that have been set up specifically for the event.
Once Around Australia takes place in January of 2012 and will last for 20 days. Beginning in Sydney, the course of the scooter event goes pretty much around the coast line with the exception of the northern territory where the course moves inland so as to take advantage of seeing the Kimberley. I have never given much thought about traveling to Australia until I learned of this event. The scenery is very diverse which makes for the perfect Tour by Scooter. Although the event is small and independent, the event coordinator, Travis Mostoller, has made the run before by Scooter so the planning for the event is provided by someone who knows the Course. The event is also a charity where each member chooses a charity of his or her choice. Kind of like a sponsorship. You reach out to organizations and people to make donations on your behalf to whatever charity you choose. For more information, you can visit the event website at www.oncearoundaustralia.com. They are also on Face book as well. Currently the event has over 2,000 followers so it is promising that the event will have a lot of members.
If you are a Scooterist, you might have heard of the Cannonball Run. Having just learned of the run this year, I don't know how big the event actually is but personally, I think it would be cool to be part of something that is small in the beginning and then gets much more popular later on. The event is more focused on the high endurance side of Scootering and has a pointing system in place to rank the participants of the events. I don't think it is a requirement to join with the intentions of racing though. The event does mention Charity, but what I gathered was that charity wasn't a major part. The event welcomes all types of Scooter agendas. The Cannonball Run will take place between the 22 and 29th of April this year and the tour is from Savannah GA, to San Diego Ca. You can get more information about the Scooter event at www.cannonballrun.com. Please feel free to comment as I want to get feedback from people who may be interested in doing something like the events proposed. Check out the websites and get a feel for the events. Once Around Australia, in particular, is pretty inspiring as the whole event was put together by one guy who has done the run before.
