How to Make Your Own No-Sew Tutu Skirt
- 1). Wrap a sash of ribbon around the wearer's waist and tie a bow at the back. Ensure the ribbon is comfortable -- not too tight or too loose -- and the bow looks the way you want it to for the final product.
- 2). Mark a small dot or line on the ribbon at either side of the bow up against its base knot. Untie the sash and tie a simple knot on each spot where the ribbon is marked.
- 3). Fold the tulle in half and lay it on a flat surface. Measure from the folded edge to the desired length for the tutu. Cut a line parallel to the folded edge at that point.
- 4). Stand with the folded edge of the tulle in front of you and take the corners nearest you into your fingertips. Carry both corners forward approximately one inch, laying the tulle evenly onto itself. Repeat the same until the tulle has been gathered up into a roll.
- 5). Cut the roll into 4 inch wide pieces. When completely unraveled each piece will be a strip of tulle 4 inches wide by twice the desired length for the tutu.
- 6). Lay the ribbon out onto a flat surface. Take a strip of tulle and fold it exactly in half. Place the folded side of the tulle strip on top of the ribbon, slightly above the top line. Wrap the free ends of the tulle under the ribbon and pull them through the looped end. Pull the tulle strip taut. Continue to do this with the rest of the tulle strips so they are all looped onto the ribbon between the two knots you marked earlier.
- 7). Tie the tutu onto the wearer and intuitively make any finishing touches, such as trimming uneven ends or sliding the tulle strips along the ribbon to better position them.
