The challenge of today's preschool better known as VPK has large demands on the class room teacher. The job of preparing students for kindergarten has become more and more difficult. Balancing the needs of the students while maintaining the sunshine state standards is a task within itself. I believe there are three things a parent can do to ensure a very successful experience when starting school. Early attendance to daycare, Reinforcement by the parent for promoting good behavior, and exposure of literacy in the early stages.
Early attendance in daycare helps by building a child's immune system's defense early; teaching children social skills with peers, and exposes children spacial relationships in the classroom. According to the peer-reviewed journal of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, Day care attendance early in life seems to protect infants and young children from later developing asthma. With early learning professionals daycare care students begin developing cognitively and establishing strong foundations for many of the other seven of Pascal's theories. Spacial relationships with peers and the room goes hand in hand as well when exposure to children fostering a sense of independence.
REINFORCEMET FROM THE PARENTS is an absolute Must! I must say that the old adage that a child learns what they live couldn't be more accurate. Before Fox TV parents are the children's American Idol. Surprisingly, children are totally unbiased. They would love an abusive parent just as they would a non abusive. Exposure of love, care, trust, happiness and patients are attributes of what the home experience should be. Once school has started being an active parent at school leaves the child with the omen that they are truly loved. No greater motivation to succeed than love.
Exposure to literacy is just as important as the others I previously mentioned. Pictures, songs, puppets, books, and interactive centers have been great avenues for exposure to literacy. Many have thought years ago that it wasn't till a child turned three or four that was the time to start preparing for kindergarten; however, it has been proven that children learn as early as the womb. This sheds some light and pushes the requirements for early childhood teachers be skilled. The professionals should always include the parents to maximize the learning potential in every child.
I hope that this article points out in some way how we need to actually prepare for kindergarten and how much VPK is important.
