When you are taking pictures with your digital camera, there are settings you can change to adjust the way the photo will turn out.
Sometimes, however, it is hard to decide which setting is best.
This is where auto bracketing comes in handy.
Two factors that make a dramatic difference in the way a photo will turn out are exposure and white balance.
Exposure Exposure is a term that refers to the amount of light that the camera's sensor is exposed to while a photograph is being taken.
The amount of light is controlled in two ways:by adjusting the length of time that the light is allowed in, and by adjusting the size of the hole that lets the light in.
If too much light is let into the picture, you will have white areas in your photo.
This is referred to as overexposure.
If not enough light is let in, your photo will be dark.
This is called underexposure.
White Balance White balance is a term that has to do with the color of the light source.
If the setting you choose is for the wrong type of light, your picture will not look the way you expect it to.
You may end up with a red or orange tint to your photo.
The types of light you may have to choose from include daylight, candlelight, incandescent (regular light bulbs) or fluorescent.
Whenever you take a picture, if you get any of the settings wrong, the picture will not turn out right.
If you are unsure of the settings needed, you can take a picture with one setting, then change it and take a few more pictures, all with slightly different settings.
This is called bracketing.
Some cameras have an auto bracketing feature.
This means that the camera will do the bracketing for you automatically, taking a series of pictures all at once every time you take a picture.
Each of these auto bracketed pictures will have a slightly different settings.
You can set the auto bracket feature to affect either the exposure or the white balance.
Since you are taking 3 to 5 pictures at a time instead of one, using the auto bracketing feature will cause your memory card to be filled up faster.
If you haven't used this feature before, experiment with it.
