    Floor preparation

    • Preparing the floor for a thorough cleaning should start with a soft bristled broom. This type of broom will not scratch the floor, unlike a hard bristled or push broom. Knocking the dirt loose and picking it up will help to prepare the floor for a liquid cleaner. The more dirt you can sweep out of crevices and corners, the better. Use a vacuum with brush attachments to pick up any hair or dirt that you missed with the broom.

    Cleaning the floor

    • To clean the floor, use a cleaner made specially for laminate flooring. Do no use an oil-based cleaner. Buff the floor with the cleaner and dry microfiber towels. Do not use cleaner made for other flooring, such as tile or hardwood. Laminate flooring cleaner can be purchased at your local home improvement store.

    Buffing the floor

    • To buff the floor, use clean microfiber towels or dry mop towels. This is the only way that buffing a laminate floor can be done safely. You cannot refinish the surface of the flooring like you would a regular hardwood floor. After buffing the floor, do not wax it. A laminate floor is not made to be waxed. The floor surface is too dense for the wax to stick to the surface.
