Complications in the Third Trimester of Pregnancy
- Pre-term labor, a post-term pregnancy and foetal growth retardation can occur in the third trimester.
- Any present underlying medical condition, such as anemia or kidney concerns, could become aggravated in the third trimester. Gestational diabetes and hypertension can also develop.
- Should any sign of bleeding occur in the third trimester, you should notify your doctor right away. Bleeding poses a serious threat to both the mother and the baby's health.
- There are different types of placenta previa: total, partial, marginal and low-lying placenta previa. The causes of this condition are unknown but certain factors can put a person at high risk. Refer to Resources for more detailed information on placenta previa.
- Be aware of potential blackouts, blurry vision, headaches, temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or more, and continuous swelling of the face, feet or hands.
