How to Install Open Cell Insulation
- 1). Seal the room you will be insulating and protect everything that cannot be moved outside the room using 2 mil plastic sheeting stapled or taped.
- 2). Connect your foam apparatus following the manufacturer's manual. Make sure the hose from the tank to the foam gun is flat and not entangled. Prepare two 6-inch-plus screwdrivers and put masking tape at 2 and 4 or 6 inches.
- 3). Dress in your disposable jumpsuit. Wear disposable gloves. Wear a respirator and a pair of protective glasses with peel away lens shields.
- 4). Start spraying. Go from left to right between the wall studs, releasing the trigger at the end of each pass. Check that the first layer is around 2 inches deep using the screwdriver.
- 5). Finish the first 2-inch layer around the room and come back to finish the second layer so the insulation is up to 4 to 6 inches.
- 6). Use a paint scraper to remove any foam present on the studs. Use a level to locate and scrape down any piece of foam that is above the level of the studs.
