How to Move a Saltwater Aquarium to Another Room
- 1). Catch your fish in a net and put them in a bucket filled with the same water as the water in your tank. Don't try to move the tank while your fish are still in it.
- 2). Remove most of the water from the aquarium. Leave enough to cover the rocks or plants at the bottom of the tank. You need to do this so you keep the healthy bacteria. If you remove all the water, you will have to start your ecosystem again, and that could make your fish sick or could kill them. Keep as much water as you can in another container so you can add it back in.
- 3). Disassemble the filtration and aeration devices. Set them onto a clean surface. Put your plants into a clean sink filled with water, preferably the water already used in your tank. You might want to just keep them in the tank, but be wary about how long you keep them out of the water.
- 4). Lift your tank from your knees. Get a helper if it is too heavy. Note that your tank is fragile.
- 5). Reassemble your tank. Complete each step in reverse order. Insert your filters and aeration devices and refill your tank with the correct setup for your ecosystem. Turn on the equipment. Add your fish. Acclimate the fish slowly so none of them die because of new water levels. You shouldn't have a problem with your fish readjusting if they were only out of the tank briefly.
