Rustic style cabins and lodges are warm and inviting. It has an aura with the ability to charm even the most sophisticated. It is a style that takes you back to the historical roots of our pioneers. The popularity of cabins and lodges with rustic style is evidenced by finding them throughout the country, from the Rockies to the Maine woods. For cabins and lodges located in the western U.S., predominant colors used in interiors are tan and brown. These colors will be accented by turquoise blue-green to reflect the sky and gray and sage green to mimic the look of cactus and desert areas.
Cabins located in the eastern portion of the U.S., such as the Poconos or Maine, colors reflect the clear blue of lakes and northern sky. Greens are mostly forest type greens, reflecting the color of spruce trees and pine trees. Plaids and striped fabric are commonly used, along with fabric that features patterned or animal prints. Add some hand made quilts for use as wall hangings or on beds for lots of color and nostalgia. Choose rough hewn furniture made from logs and rustic woods. Leave wood in its natural state with no stain. Furniture should be slightly overstuffed and comfortable. Look for rolled arms and substantial pieces. Alternatively, place well loved antiques or vintage furniture throughout to bring in a sense of the past. If pieces are worn, freshen up with a coat of deep green or blue paint. Small tree stumps can be made into end tables for a conversation piece.
