  A tea party theme can be fun for a child's birthday party as it is something very different from most other kinds of parties and gives kids the chance to dress up and act a little silly pretending to be adults. Introduce children to the world of formal tea parties with a themed birthday bash. There are lots of things you can do to make a traditionally formal and adult party, child-oriented.
  
  

Invitations

• Make teapot shaped invitations out of colored cardstock or construction paper. Attach a tea bag shaped card with the RSVP information. Invite kids to bring a teddy bear or doll that can be dressed up, as their friend for the tea party .
  
  

Decorations

• Cover the tables with pretty linens. Arrange a floral centerpiece for each table or use a kids toy tea set as a centerpiece. Use cloth napkins and set out fancy plates and cups. You can use plastic cups and plates since it's children being served, just find ones with a fancy decorative pattern that look like mock china. If it's a hot day have dainty paper hand fans at each table setting. Arrange a section for extra hats and gloves for any kids who didn't bring their own.
  
  

Food

• Serve fun and festive tea party food such as animal crackers, peanut butter and jelly tea sandwiches, cookies and chocolate covered strawberries. Most kids aren't fans of hot tea so instead serve iced tea and a fruit punch of some sort.
  
  

Activities and Games

• Have everyone get up and sing and dance to "I'm a little teapot." You can even make it into a competition and vote on who does the best rendition of the popular song. Play pass the sugar cube. Break the kids up into groups by tables and give one person a sugar cube. Have everyone hold their spoons up. The kids must pass the sugar cube around the table person to person using only their spoons. The first team to make it around the table three times wins.
  
  

Favors

• Fill a plastic tea cup with candy, set it on the plastic saucer, wrap them in cellophane and tie with a bow. Give little girls a purse filled with gloves, lip gloss and costume jewelry.
