Bastar is a district in the state of Chhattisgarh in the central part of India. Jagdalpur is the district headquarters. According to the tourists and explorers, Bastar is the €Kashmir of Chhattisgarh'. The opaque forests, thick bamboo bushes, rare varieties of trees such as Teak, Sal, Sheesham, etc. the high mountains, the enchanting valleys and the tribal bamboo huts, the mighty waterfalls and their gutsy lifestyle just inspires us and teaches us so many things to learn. Bastar is one place that is endowed with ultimate natural beauty and many of them still remains unexplored. All in all, Bastar imprints a visitors mind with a lingering memory.

Some of the places to see in Bastar are Chitrakoot and Tiratgarh Falls, Kotamsar and Kailash caves, Kanger Valley National Park, etc. Indra Valley National park that is famous for tigers and wild buffaloes is located at a distance of 200 kms from Jagdalpur is a place you can't miss. Another unsung beauty is Kurschel Valley with tall trees about 40 kms from Narainpur.

On the west of Jagdalpur, is located the mighty Chitrakoot Falls, similar to the Niagra Falls. This waterfall looks so magnificent and strong that you can watch it the entire evening and get closer to nature. There is another waterfall called the Tirathgarh Falls, that presents a place for peaceful penance, picnic spot, photographer's delight, anything related to pacifism and tranquility.

The Kotamsar and Kailash caves, in the Kankar Valley National Park, 35 kms from Jagdalpur. Stalagmites formation in these caves displays a perfect example of untouched nature. The organ column in the caves can produce such wonderful music. Wild life sanctuaries such as the Barnawapara sanctuary, Sita Nadi Sanctuary and Udanti Scanctuary protect many species of animals especially the wild buffaloes.
The artifacts that the tribals make, displays its attachment to the myths, rituals, culture, religion and folklore. The materials that they use are from the immediate surroundings like bell metal, wrought iron, wood, terracotta, sisal and shell craft. There is a unique quality of rawness that adds to the rustic appeal.

The most important festival is Dusshera in Bastar, when the deities from the entire village come together at the temple of Danteshwari at Jagdalpur. The festival involves the participation of all the tribes of Bastar. There are numerous festivals that keep happening in the happy place of Bastar. A very interesting festival is Bhagoriya festival, where you are literally allowed to elope with your lover. These festivals are unique and involve love and relationships.
