Ohio's Amish country offers a great way to travel back in time to a simpler, more relaxing way of life. While the Amish still follow their unique traditions, visitors find the slowed pace refreshing with plenty of attractions, shopping and restaurants to keep them entertained while in the area. - A full-color 265-foot-long mural remains the highlight of the heritage center. The colorful mural depicts the history of the Amish and Mennonite people starting in 1525 in Zurich, Switzerland, to the present day. Next, watch the video presentation about local life and the traditions and culture of the local Amish. The center features a gift shop with handcrafted baskets, and wooden and fabric crafts. A bookstore offers videos and books about the Amish as well as genealogy resources with a computerized database for looking up Amish and Mennonite family histories. Open year-round, the center also offers evening hours from June through October.

Or, hop on the train and take a trip around the farm, through the woods and past several ponds where the conductor feeds the fish. After exploring, stop for a bite to eat at the Amish Farm Diner. The facility also features an Amish home complete with furniture that helps explain the traditions and lifestyle of two different types of Amish people who live in the area. The shops stay open year-round, except on Sundays, with tours of the home, buggy rides and train rides available from April through October.

The farm offers 30- to 40-minute tours that take you around the property and through two houses and a barn. Each building contains furniture, clothing and accessories that help explain the history and lifestyle of the Amish people. Yoder's also offers authentic buggy rides with members of the Amish church as the drivers. Don't forget to stop at the bakery for some fresh baked goods or homemade jams and jellies. Or, visit the school house next door and meet the Amish teacher. In the fall, learn how the Amish make apple butter the old-fashioned way. Yoder's stays open from mid-April through October with admission fees charged for the tours and buggy rides.
