    Connecting to a Computer

    • 1). Turn off your computer. Determine where you want to place your Altec speakers --- one on each side of your computer, on a shelf or other location.

    • 2). Place the speakers as far apart as possible, if the speakers are a pair. This arrangement yields the best stereo sound, according to Altec.

Note that the two speakers share one cable. Note also a single cable exiting one of the speakers. If the single cable is not present, plug one end of a 3.5 mm (1/8 inch) stereo cable into the jack on the back of one of the speakers. The jack may be labeled "Aux."

    • 3). Plug the speaker cable running from the single Altec speaker into the "Headphone" jack on the front, side or back of your computer.

    • 4). Plug the Altec speakers' power cable with the round connector into the "Power" jack on the back of one of the speakers. Plug the other end of this cable into an electrical outlet.

If the Altec speakers use batteries, turn over the speakers and find the battery compartment in one of them. Remove the battery door and install AA batteries; the number of batteries will vary depending on the model. Reinstall the battery door.

    • 5). Press the "Power" button on the front, side or back of one of the speakers. Turn on your computer---you will hear your computer beep through the Altec speakers. Adjust the "Volume" control on your computer and on the speakers to your liking.

If you don't hear any sound, check the speaker's connection cable, volume control then check your computer's volume control and the cable plugged into the "Headphone" jack.
