Nowadays more and more people are taking photographs than in the past. There are several reasons for this, mainly being the almost negligible running costs of digital photography and technology allowing so many of us to have built-in cameras on telephones and similar devices. In the past, not too long ago, all photographic images were captured on print film, which needs developing and then printing, or on slide (transparency) film, which just needed developing. Technology has also helped us a great deal by allowing us to have our own personal printers. So, storing thousands of snapshots and artistic or action photos, and printing the best at home has become the norm. So what does one do with one's favourite family portrait or scenic view? Well, having it printed onto canvas is an idea. To print a canvas is not a particularly difficult, expensive or technical thing to do, but most amateur photographers would normally just pay for it to be done at a photo printing shop. Why is this so? Well, the outlay for a decent-sized printer, its ink and the canvas itself may be a little uneconomical unless many images are planned to be selected and printed. In addition, teething problems due to the learning process are highly likely and you really will be paying for your own mistakes. For those who really want to know how to print on a canvas one of the many online tutorials can give clear instruction.

Once you have chosen your favourite image and have decided to print it on canvas yourself, a fair amount of research is needed to find the best printer at the most affordable price, then some cheap canvas, at least for the first few attempts, as there are bound to be some learning-curve imperfections. Then, once you feel confident that you are expert enough to print a canvas properly, it's time to purchase some better quality canvas and attempt some proper printing. In fact, once you are totally confident and possibly even feel rather adept at this new activity, you could even post your own tutorial of how to print canvas images at home or in the office.

Of course, the next job after that is getting your new masterpiece framed. When framing pictures how to get the canvas stretched evenly and tautly is vital. Like the printing on this medium, practice may not make perfect, but it is certainly a foolish idea to use a favoured image on canvas for you first attempt. Practise on unimportant images in preparation for fatal errors.

Getting to that stage where you able to flawlessly print your images on canvas can open up whole new worlds of both graphic design and interior design for you and also your family and friends. And with just a little bit of Photoshop experience you can clean up old photos or manipulate your favourite shots to look like pop art prints or even water paintings before printing your favourite seascape or surfing pictures on canvas.
