How to Design a Disney Cars Cake
- 1). Bake a sheet cake according to recipe instructions. Allow the cake to cool, then place a cake plate over the top and turn the pan upside-down, releasing the cake onto the cake plate.
- 2). Find a picture from the movie "Cars" online or use a picture from a "Cars" coloring book. The picture should be no bigger than the sheet cake--9 by 12 inches or smaller. Cut out the picture. You will use this as the pattern for your cake, so cut it out exactly. Place the pattern on the top of the cake, centered so that the entire picture fits. Use a toothpick to trace the picture onto the cake.
- 3). Use a serrated knife to cut out the car, following the toothpick lines. Set the extra cake to the side. With a toothpick, trace the details of the car onto the cake, using the picture as a guide.
- 4). Spread white icing on the windshield and headlights of the car. Mix a few tablespoons of white icing with a small amount of blue gel icing to make a light blue icing. Spread the icing on the windows of the car. Put about 1/4 of the remaining icing into one bowl and the rest into another.
- 5). Drop a few drops of orange food coloring into the bowl with the smaller amount of icing and color the larger amount of icing red. Spread the red and orange frosting on the car based on the marks you made with the toothpicks.
- 6). Use the black gel icing to color in the tires and the lines of the car. Also use the black icing to make two small pupils on the windshield of the car. Use the blue gel icing to make blue irises around the pupil. Write a "happy birthday" message on the hood of the car using the black icing.
