Eliminate Underlying Cause

• There are ways to treat intertrigo symptoms, but it is best to first treat the underlying cause or the symptoms will continue to return. If it is between skin folds on an overweight person, then the Intertrigo won't be completely cured until the person loses enough weight to eliminate the folds.
  
  Diabetics need to control their blood sugar to reduce their susceptibility to intertrigo.
  
  If it under a woman's breasts, then she needs to wear a more supportive bra.
  
  

Eliminate Moisture

• Intertrigo only occurs in areas that have enough moisture. The fungus needs moisture to survive. Reduce the moisture by using medicated powders in the area. You also could use a roll-on antiperspirant to reduce sweating, if that is part of the problem. Also, allow the affected area to get fresh air.
  
  

Anti-Fungal Treatment

• A doctor may describe an anti-fungal cream to treat symptoms of intertrigo, especially if the patient is not overweight or diabetic.
  
  

Treat Secondary Problems

• If the area also has a bacterial infection or yeast infection, these also need to be treated. A bacterial infection can be treated with a cream such as fusidic acid cream. A yeast infection can be treated with a cream like Lamisil.
