    • 1). Measure the size of the lockplate jamb, or the previous hinge jamb, if you're replacing one, and cut the new board to the right dimensions. If the point where jamb and header meet is angled, you will have to trim the top edge of your jamb to an angle to fit snugly.

    • 2). Glue the back edge of the jamb and fit it into place. Use finishing nails to further secure it.

    • 3). Install the hinges, making sure that they are at the right height. It might work best to attach the hinges to the door, first, and then install both hinges and door simultaneously.

    • 4). Nail the moulding into place. If you're replacing a previous jamb, you might be able to reuse the old moulding, provided it was not damaged during removal.
