How to Reset a Cisco Pix 501 to Factory Defaults

    • 1). Connect your computer with the Ethernet cable to one of the Ethernet ports on the back of the firewall.

    • 2). Change the Internet connection settings on your computer to connect with a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol).

    • 3). Look for a green light on the front of the firewall indicating computer connectivity to the Internet.

    • 4). Open an Internet browser program. Type "https://192.168.1.1/startup.html" into the address box.

    • 5). Accept any certificates if prompted.

    • 6). Click on "Reset PIX to Factory Default Configuration" from the "Starting Configuration" page to reset the firewall to the factory defaults. Alternatively, select "Reset PIX to Factory Default Configuration" from the "File" menu in the "Pix Device Manager."
