Wedding gown is different from other fashion clothes because you may use it only once in your lifetime.
Some people like to pass their wedding gowns to their next generation.
Thus, how to wash a wedding gown properly so that you can store it well and pass it on will be important.
Most people choose to dry-clean it, but we should know that wedding gowns are made of special materials that are not suitable for dry clean.
First, you should check up the bridal gown carefully to see if there are any stains.
Especially examine the train and hemline.
The train and hemline are easy to get smudged because during your wedding, the long trains will always drag on the ground like dry mops.
If your gown has many layers of lining in the skirt, make sure that you examine all of them.
It will be better if the bodice of your bridal gown can be detached from the skirt so that you can wash the pieces separately.
Remove the decorative parts of the wedding dress like ribbons, belts and bows.
Then look at the label of your bridal gown to see the materials.
Different materials have different clean methods.
Wedding gowns which made of polyester fabrics can be washed in water but silk fabrics require professional cleaner as silk damages easily.
Prepare a washtub with warm water and enough foamy soap.
Soak the train and hemline into the washtub for at least 30 minutes.
Then wipe or scrub the stains off by using a sponge and mild detergent.
Some materials such as lace are delicate and should not scrub, so you'd better gently wipe the strains off with your fingertips.
Bodice is the upper part of the wedding gown where you can find underarm stains and dirt marks.
When washing the bodice, turn it inside out.
If there are any stains that you can't remove by detergent, try mild bleach (mild bleach only can be used for cleaning white wedding gown).
After washing all parts of the bridal gown separately, immerse the wedding dress into the water.
Swill down the gown in clean water until the soap bubbles rinsed out.
You may have to repeat this procedure for several times.
If you are sure the gown has been cleaned thoroughly, take it out of the washtub carefully.
Don't try to twist, wring or squeeze it because that will destroy the shape of your wedding gown.
Use several drying racks and keep your dress flat on them and let it dry in the air.
Make sure the dress is spread out so it will maintain its form.
