How to Be a Creative Leader
- 1). Learn to have vision. Having vision doesn't require designing huge and radical changes on a regular basis, but it does mean that you should routinely embrace alternative solutions and listen closely to new ideas. You should feel confident in your own decision-making ability, and once you've selected a course of action you should be confident that you'll reach your goals.
- 2). Get excited about new opportunities. Uncreative leaders may feel discouraged from pursuing new opportunities because they're untested and may require substantial changes to their business; because of this, they may avoid even doing initial research into its potential. Although you shouldn't follow every opportunity that comes along, you should nevertheless strive to keep an open mind about unique possibilities that may be available.
- 3). Make definite decisions. Part of being a creative leader is having confidence in your decisions. After all, nothing can change successfully if people don't believe in your enthusiasm and commitment to your own ideas. Because of this, ensure that your decisions are transparent and clear. This may feel risky, because it's human nature to be worried about making a wrong decision; however, you always throw yourself into your ideas. This is similar to an old military motto: "A bad leader isn't one that makes bad decisions; a bad leader is one that makes no decisions at all."
- 4). Advertise your actions. Once you've made your decisions, ensure that they're promulgated and understood. That will underline your confidence in your business practice, and demonstrate your faith that the project will go ahead effectively.
