When driving abroad on vacation and driving your own car, don't be lured into believing that your homeland insurance policy will have you covered abroad as well.
With a only few exceptions, this is not true, and you will need to either purchase a an overseas breakdown cover for each country you are transiting or extend your main insurance contract to get protection in case of incidents abroad.
If you think that you don't need it: we all know that the costs involved in fixing your car in your country of residence go through the roof if you don't have insurance, imagine them going tenfold in a mishap abroad.
Contrary to popular belief, foreign car insurance policies won't cost you an extortionate amount, provided you do your homework and look around for the most favorable offers, they can be quite affordable.
Depending on the length and frequency of your trips, you can choose to sign a flat rate yearly contract with your company (and pay small monthly premiums), which will provide overseas protection for any journey abroad, or only sign up with an overseas insurance policy for one month (or the few days you are traveling), to get protection for one single voyage.

Traveling abroad without a breakdown cover is not worth the risk.
If you do your homework, you will find that such policies are highly affordable so, in other words, you have no excuse for being caught out without one and will be breaking the law in many countries if you are not covered.
