Several things in the living room can cause an elderly person to trip and fall.
Therefore, with this in mind, these tips are put forth.
No Cords Around Electrical cords lying around the living room is an accident waiting to happen.
Put the cords behind the furniture, or you can purchase a few gadgets that will help to keep them neatly in a corner.
No Obstacle in Pathway If there is something in the room that is preventing you from walking freely, you can consider placing it somewhere else.
If you have a chair that is placed in a location that give the area a wonderful feel, but you have to twist your body whenever you are passing by it, it can contribute to an accident.
Strong Furniture Make sure that all the furniture in this area are strong.
By that, I mean strong enough to hold your weight if you lean on them.
After sitting for a while, and it is that time to get up, you may need some assistance and if no one else is there, you can use the chair to support you as you get up.
Non-Stick Floor If you have tiles or hardwood floor, whenever you polish it, use a non-stick coating.
Additionally, if you place a mat on it, make sure that the mat is also non-stick.
Also, after a period of time, the corners of some mats begins to roll up, which can become dangerous, so make sure that you cannot trip over the corners.
On the other hand, if your floor is carpeted, make sure that the carpet has enough groves to help prevent slipping.
