How to Keep Earwigs Out of Cauliflower

    • 1). Place earwig traps around the cauliflower plant’s base. Fill a tuna or other small can with fish oil. Set the can in the soil, so that only the rim is above soil level. The earwigs are drawn to the oil, but can't escape the can.

    • 2). Clear the garden of excess debris. Keep the areas surrounding the cauliflower bed weeded and free of leaves and grass clippings. Earwigs are attracted to these areas for daytime bedding.

    • 3). Eliminate mulch if earwig populations are high, since mulch is a preferred bedding material for the pests. Alternatively, use newspapers as mulch. Dispose of the newspapers each morning and replace them with new ones. The earwigs bed in the papers, allowing you to remove them from the garden discarding the newspaper.

    • 4). Use an insecticide formulated for use on grasshoppers, slugs or cutworms. Choose a product safe for use on edible plants and apply it as directed on the package.
