How to Lace Boots to Stop Ankle Sag
- 1). Select a lace length that is long enough for your boots. The best lacing method will not work well if the laces are not long enough to go the length of the boot. If you are unsure what length is best for your boots, consult with a salesperson at your local shoe store.
- 2). Place the lace straight across the bottom of the lacing area, and bring the lace ends up through the two bottom eyelets.
- 3). Grab the right side and run it straight up to the second eyelet on the right side. Still working with the same end of the lace, run it straight across the second row of eyelets and bring it up out of the second eyelet on the left side of the boot.
- 4). Take the left lace and run it up the left side of the boot. Go past the second eyelet, which already has a lace coming out of it, and move up to the third eyelet on the left side. Thread the lace down through the third eyelet, straight across and up through the third eyelet on the right side.
- 5). Continue lacing, skipping an eyelet each time and always threading straight across -- never criss-crossing. This is a lacing technique that bikers and hikers use that greatly reduces sagging.
- 1). Lay lace across the bottom eyelets and bring either end up through the bottom eyelets.
- 2). Take the right side lace and cross it over to the left side second eyelet. Bring the lace up through the second row eyelet. Now, take the left side lace and cross to the right side second eyelet, bringing the lace up through the eyelet. Continue this traditional pattern until you reach the second set of eyelets from the top of the boot.
- 3). Take the right lace and run it straight up the right side and down into the top right eyelet. Take the left lace and run it straight up the left side and down into the top left eyelet.
- 4). Take the right lace and cross it over and under the straight loop that goes up the top two eyelets on the left side. Repeat with the left lace. Tighten. This is a lace that is often worn by runners and rock climbers. It is said to prevent slippage in the laces.
