How to Find a Movie by Its Synopsis
- 1). Find out all the details about the synopsis including plots, setting and actors. For example, if you have a vague memory of the synopsis, you can narrow down your search if you know the film was a Western.
- 2). Write down all possible search terms using the synopsis. For example, if the main character of the movie is an hunter, possible search terms could be "explorer," "trapper" or "mountain man."
- 3). Generate phrases of three to five words that highlight the synopsis. Keep the words in your search phrase to a minimum to increase the accuracy of your search. For example, if the synopsis involves a hunter character seeking revenge after his wife was murdered, the search phrase could be "hunter seeking revenge."
- 4). Visit a movie database and plug in your search terms into the search bar. IMDB.com and The Complete Index to World Film websites provide personal movie database search engines for people to search by production crew names such as actors, directors, producers, editors, writers, etc. They also allow searches using search terms to filter through the database of movie and short film synopsis. Use the "Advanced Search" Engine and select "Plot" in the drop-down menu.
