How to Build a Beagle Puppy Pen

    Interior Beagle Pen

    • 1). Measure the area inside your house for this puppy pen, ensuring you have plenty of room. Your Beagle puppy may be small now, but eventually he or she will grow to a nice medium size. Allow for at least a 3-foot wide by 5-foot deep rectangle.

    • 2). Cut 8 pieces of your PVC pipes to the desired depth of your Beagle pen. Each side of the pen will feature 4 horizontally positioned pipes, so each of these pipes must be the same length. Likewise, measure and cut 8 more pieces of PVC pipe to the intended width of this playpen. The front and rear will feature 4 horizontal pipes.

    • 3). Connect a cross pipe to each end of the 16 PVC pipes. These cross pipes look like lowercase letter T's and help you connect the pipes together to form a rectangular pen. Stack the PVC pipes on top of each other, keeping the height at just 4 pipes. Arrange these stacked pipes into a rectangle on the ground before you.

    • 4). Use the rounded caps to connect each of the perpendicularly placed pipes to each other. Because there are 4 sides to this rectangular pen and 4 levels of PVC pipes, you will need a total of 16 PVC caps to connect this entire structure.

    • 5). Place newspaper underneath your Beagle playpen to protect the floor of your house from any accidents your pup may have.

    Exterior Beagle Pen

    • 1). Mark a flat piece of land outside of your home where you wish to build the exterior Beagle pen. Because this pen is outside, you may want to create a much larger area for the puppy to play than you would in an interior pen.

    • 2). Drive 4 landscape ties about one foot into the ground to act as secured fence posts. Additionally, secure 2 more posts along the depth line of this rectangular outline. For example, if your pen is 6 feet wide and 20 feet deep, these extra two landscape ties should be placed at the 10-foot mark of the depth.

    • 3). Dig a 3-inch trench along the perimeter of your Beagle pen. Wrap chicken wire around the bottom of the landscape ties and stretch it between each of the posts. This secures the base of your setup and discourages your puppy from digging out of the pen. Replace the trench with the original soil when you are finished.

    • 4). Line the perimeter of your pen with the chain link fence. Position each of the chain link fences vertically on the ground, using pliers to bend the metal around the wooden posts to link chains at each of the corners. Wiggle the bottoms of the chain link fence so it secures itself into the ground. Include a chain link gate in front of your playpen instead of the normal fencing, as this enables you to enter and exit the pen as you please.

    • 5). Lay cement blocks at each corner of the pen to weigh down the chicken wire. This further prevents your dog from trying to dig out. Additionally, spread wood chips or ground mulch inside your Beagle puppy pen to discourage escape.
