Just for Kids

• Dress your kids in costumes that are both easy to make and easy to identify. Simple shepherd costumes work well for both boys and girls, just add pastel linens to the girls' outfits. Sheep costumes are readily available at most costume stores for preschoolers and infants. Biblical kings and queens just require a couple of homemade crowns and costume jewelry. Consider transforming your little girl and her friends into a group of angels. Joseph is easy to identify with his coat of many colors or you can dress a boy in a shorter shepherd outfit accessorized with a harp or a slingshot with a bag of rocks to represent young King David.
  
  

Women of the Bible

• Spice up your biblical costumes this year by dressing as one of the bad girls of the Bible. Jezebel is easy to spot with heavy makeup (draw in those furrowed brows) and excessive jewelry. Another bad girl is Salome, Herod's stepdaughter for whom you can dress in a genie outfit and lace-up sandals. For extra emphasis, you can glue a plastic head to a silver painted tray for Salome to carry.
  
  There's no shortage of good girls of the Bible either. Use your pregnancy to your advantage (or stuff a pillow under your outfit) and dress as Mary, the mother of Jesus. Layer sheer polyester over a flowing robe made of gold lame when you dress as Queen Esther.
  
  

Men of the Bible

• Turn that old brown rug into body hair. Wrap double sided tape around your arms and legs and attach the shavings from an old brown rug to it when you dress as Esau. Stuff a patch of the rug in the top of your robe to complete your costume. Don a long brown wig and robe for your Jesus costume. More generic male figures include Roman soldiers or blind and crippled beggars.
  
  

Comical Costumes

• Consider dressing as Jonah - after he was spit out of the mouth of the whale. Attach fake seaweed or yarn to a disheveled outfit that includes just one sandal. Cut a cardboard box into the shape of a boat with stuffed animals hanging from the sides. Make handles for the "ark" and stand in the middle when you arrive at your Halloween party dressed as Noah. For the guy who isn't faint of heart, Adam is a great choice. Just grab your thong and palm leaf and an apple snack.
