The beautiful city of Antalya is a wondrous city, full of excitement and possibilities. The town was originally founded somewhere around 150BC as Attalia. However, the name has since changed, and the city has become one of the true holiday marvels of the Turkish Riviera.

Hotels in Antalya city centre range from five star accommodation options to smaller, lower budget lodgings. However, with so many magnificent attractions found throughout the city centre, tourists can find many places of convenience. The airport is the quickest way into the city, and flights are rather cheap to boot.

Attractions are one thing, but the activities for tourists are also very important for the town's tourism industry. The following information highlights some of the most common questions asked about the city and its activities. It is best for tourists to read through before holidaying in the city centre of Antalya.

Are there tours available?
Tourists can find plenty of tours in the centre of the city. The most visited district in the city centre is the old quarter district, which is called Kaleici. It is filled with some of the most historical sites in the city and region. The best way to see these sites is on foot, and guided walking tours are available. However, it is also possible for tourists to rent bicycles and tour the district independently.

What is the shopping scene like?
The shopping scene in Antalya is like other cities in Turkey €" awesome. Travellers will be able to find a plethora of fake goods to take home, including some of the world's leading fashion labels. In addition, there are plenty of leather goods, shoes, handbags, clothing styles and antiques to purchase in the streets of downtown Antalya. Don't forget, prices can almost be bargained down to almost half the quoted original price. Shopping centres are somewhat different though. Bargaining is not really practiced.

How else can tourists see the city of Antalya?
At the edge of the city centre, the harbour district offers several water excursions for tourists. The best cruises are the ones that leave just before sunset. Couples are usually found on these ships, some of which are yachts, and tickets are harder to come by.

What about beaches?
The centre of the city is also close to numerous beaches, namely Lara and Konyaalti Beach. They are extremely busy during the summer, but the sand and the water aren't overly beautiful. However, they are just minutes from the heart of the city, and perfect to escape those hot summer days.

What can tourists do on a hot, summer day?
In addition to the beaches, there is an aquapark located just minutes from the heart of Antalya. The aquapark is believed to be the largest in Turkey and the Middle East, but there are other large parks found in other Middle Eastern countries. The water park in Antalya City Centre is called Dedeman Aquapark.

What about the cuisine?
Yes, Antalya's city centre is home to a lot of restaurants, many of which boast the most delectable cuisines of the local area. Turkey is renowned for its food, and Antalya is certainly no exception. Piyaz is one of the most widely enjoyed dishes in the city, and is a must taste dish for travellers.

Is the night life interesting?
If travellers are looking for a destination with non-stop, energetic night clubs, then Antalya downtown may not be the place for them. However, that doesn't take away from the night life though. There are some really exciting establishments found along the streets of the city centre. Even the old district contains pubs that are found in centuries-old houses.
