    • 1). Secure a piece of 80-grit sandpaper to a sandpaper block and smooth the surface around the crack and hole. Replace the 80-grit sandpaper with 150 grit and smooth the wood to a fine finish.

    • 2). Incorporate water with a wood cleaner as described on the packaging and apply it in and around the crack and hole. Allow it to settle for 5 minutes and scrub the area vigorously with a nylon-bristled brush to remove stains and residue from the wood.

    • 3). Rinse the cleaner from the deck with a garden hose and wait 24 hours for the deck to dry completely.

    • 4). Scoop the wood filler onto a putty knife and apply it directly to the crack and hole. Smooth the wood filler so it is even with the level of the wood and the repair is barely noticeable.

    • 5). Wait 5 minutes for the filler to partly dry. Run a damp cloth gently across the surface to remove any stray filler. Allow the filler to dry overnight before walking on the deck.
