How to Feed Quails
- 1). Feed quail a food rated for gamebirds. Buy pellets or crumble at your local farm supply store or pet store. Grind food if necessary so that is just larger than dust. Quail are very small and can choke easily. Feed them a food high in protein. Protein is essential to gamebird care.
- 2). Give the quail mealworms to provide more fat and protein. Substitute crickets if mealworms are not an option. Feed the quail either of the insects no more than three times per week.
- 3). Feed the quail vegetables and fruits such as cucumbers, spinach, tomatoes, sprouts and broccoli several times per week.
- 4). Provide grit mixed with crushed oyster shells to help females more easily produce eggs and to aid in digestion.
- 5). Add a liquid vitamin supplement designed for small gamebirds to the bird's water supply once per week to provide any nutrients the birds may have missed.
- 6). Provide a constant supply of fresh water to quail, as you would to any other animal.
