Hair Loss and Aging - is hair loss making you look prematurely old?
You may not be a Peter Pan, the boy (or girl) who doesn't want to grow up, but I don't think any of us wish to look older than our age. Our skin will age and our hair will grey, but there are few things that will prematurely age us like hair loss. With a quick scan over our before and after photos (€before,' with hair loss problem, and €after,' with hair restoration') will show you how dramatically different a person can look when they experience hair loss. Over the last 17 years of working in the profession of hair replacement most people are amazed at the difference great looking hair makes, people constantly comment when they see the photos, €with hair, they look 10 to 15 years younger' €" such is the difference nonsurgical hair replacement and hair restoration can make.
I personally remember speaking with one of my clients sharing about his previous life with hair loss. On one occasion whilst working with His father, he recounted that that he was mistaken to be his father's brother. He was only 22 years old! (He had quite extreme hair loss for his age, losing all of his hair through the front, top and crown (vertex) regions of the scalp.) It wasn't long after this shocking comparison that he visited out studio, got a great nonsurgical hair system and started enjoying looking his age again!
However, for most people, they don't need or even wish to look 25 years younger, they merely wish to post pone, the premature aging process that hair loss creates €" this is true for both men and women. An article on the ISHRS (International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery) website, it suggests €one of the most common reasons why men and women consider hair transplantation surgery (and nonsurgical hair replacement) is to overcome what they perceive to be an age-inappropriate appearance. They don't want to appear older than their calendar age or appear older than they wish to appear.€
The article goes on to state that €the reasons to avoid age-inappropriate appearance can be personal, work-related, or a combination of both. In both personal and work environments, age-inappropriate appearance can substantially influence one's self-regard, and one's interpersonal and work-related relationships. Age is objectively measured in years, but the appearance of age is assessed subjectively. It is often the subjective assessment by others that counts the most in one's personal and professional life.€
Most people you encounter in daily life probably have no idea what your calendar age actually is; they nevertheless €quickly make judgments regarding your appearance of age. Along with their assessment of your apparent age as seen through their eyes, they may make some judgments regarding what may be called age-related values,€ the author suggests, such as vigour, self-regard, youthfulness or agelessness.€
People experiencing hair loss are acutely aware of these factors. Even the most successful individuals in our society, such as corporate executives, business owners and entrepreneurs are concerned about how others may view, for this very reason we have many clients in this demographic. They say, in the cut-throat corporate world of today, they don't wish to give their clients or employers any reason to think they are not as competent as a younger, possibly more energetic person to do their job, simply because their hair makes them look older than their actual age.
Happily there are a number of options available from topical treatments, to laser hair therapy, non-surgical hair replacements, hair extensions, wigs, and surgical hair restoration.
