How to Qualify for an HSA Account
- 1). Obtain health insurance that comes with a deductible of at least $1,150 for a single person or $2,300 for family coverage.
- 2). Find an insurance package that not only has the minimum deducible, but has a maximum out-of pocket expense of $5,800 for a single and $11,600 for family.
- 3). Avoid enrolling in Medicare. Once you are placed in Medicare, you are no longer eligible for an HSA.
- 4). Claim yourself on your taxes. If someone else claims you as a dependant you are not eligible for an HSA.
- 5). Cover yourself with only an HDHP health plan. If you use any additional health insurance coverage, you are no longer able to obtain an HSA account.
