Ideas for Old Windows Made Into Trays

One of the many creative ways you can use old windows is by turning them into one of a kind serving trays. There are many aesthetic options depending on your design tastes. For a worn, rustic look, you can leave the original paint on the frames, or try sanding and re-painting the window in a color of your choosing if you want a cleaner, refinished look. Screw drawer handles into opposite sides of the window and you have a functional piece of homemade art. - Collect old photographs, letters, jewelry, badges or certificates. Measure out a piece of cardboard to the size of the window frame and cover the cardboard completely with fabric. Use double-sided fabric tape or fabric glue as an adhesive. Arrange and attach the mementos on the front of the covered cardboard and place it upside down on what you would consider the backside of your window. Screw or nail it into place.
- Find grains and seeds of various colors and sizes at your local health foods store. Measure out a piece of cardboard to the size of the window pane. Measure and draw out each of the individual frames of a grid-style window onto the cardboard. Brush a liquid adhesive onto each of the squares or rectangles drawn onto the cardboard. Affix the grains and seeds, either creating a pattern within each pane or grouping the grains and seeds by color or type. Let dry and nail, tack or screw the cardboard onto the window frame.
- Gather small wildflowers, clover or leaves. Press dry by placing them between the pages of a heavy book for several days. When the items are ready, take them out and place them onto the panes of glass in a way that looks pleasing to you. Once you have your design, mix liquid glue with water and brush gently onto the front of each of the pieces. Press directly onto the panes of glass on the back side of your window. When dry, cover each with two coats of polyurethane or any other decoupaging material.
