DIY Calla Lily Wedding Centerpieces
- 1). Place the calla lilies in a bucket filled with water. Cut about two inches away from the stem’s ends at a 45-degree angle with a pair of pruning shears. Trim the stems while they're underwater and allow the flowers to continue to hydrate in the bucket.
- 2). Fill the vase that will be used for the centerpieces about two-thirds full of water. Next, pour one packet of floral food and antibacterial powder into the water.
- 3). Grab three or four of the largest lilies together and arrange them around each other so that the blooms form a circle. Introduce another five to seven calla lilies around this base circle about one-half inch below the first blooms and secure the bunch with a rubber band.
- 4). Introduce the smaller calla lilies in the bunch around the periphery of the bouquet, which could require an additional nine to twelve blooms. These flowers should also fall about one-half inch below the second ring so that the arrangement has a dome-like shape. Secure these outer flowers with another rubber band.
- 5). Put two to three sprigs of lily grass around the arrangement to add a bit of greenery. Lily grass has tall, slender, deep green blades, which work well as a filler for floral arrangements.
- 6). Trim the stems to about 12 inches from the bloom for the shorter bouquet arrangements. Cut the stems at a 45-degree angle to allow for more water absorption and place the calla lilies in the vase. However, if arranging a taller centerpiece, trim the stems about one to two inches away from the bottom of the stem, preserving the majority of the stem to accommodate the longer vase.
