    • 1). Measure the size of your installation area to ensure your shower unit will fit in your space. Make sure your drain pipe is in the correct place to match up with the hole in the shower pan.

    • 2). Slide the unit into place in your alcove. The front skirt of the pan should sit on the floor. Check to see if the unit is level by placing a level on the top of both side walls and on the front lip of the pan. To correct a shower unit that is not level, use shims to adjust and recheck the level of the unit as necessary.

    • 3). Fasten the lower corners of the nailing flange on either side of the unit using the roofing nails or screws. Fasten the upper corner, then work backwards around the shower unit with a stud finder. Secure the upper flange of the shower unit to each stud. If your shower unit is acrylic, predrill pilot holes to make sure you don't crack the wall itself.

    • 4). Finish securing the unit by fastening along the side flanges down to the base. The fasteners should be 8 inches apart on-center.

    • 5). Cut holes for your shower valve and shower head, if necessary. Use a fine-toothed hole saw or a cutting edge to make clean openings. Fit your shower drain together in the base of the pan, and secure it. Ensure that the drain is watertight by sealing it with either silicone or plumber's putty.
